TV/Stereo Armoire ideas needed
Hi, I'm attempting to redecorate my living room (on a budget). My problem is my TV and stereo equipment. I have a 32" TV and a CD/tape player with speakers. (medium size) My current stand for the TV is a corner unit (black). Something I picked up for about 100.00. It has a space for the TV and two shelves on the bottom (the space is not large enough for the stereo). I currently have a vcr player on one self and decorations on the other. I currently have the stereo on something I HATE. I have a board across two old large speakers from an old stereo set. This set up is about the size of a sofa table. It is currently placed in an area that is probably the focal point of the living room. (not a good placement). I'm looking for ways to house both the TV and stereo. My dream is an armoire so that I would have to "look" at the stuff all the time and have a top to decorate. As I said before - I'm decorating on a budget. I don't like to spend a lot - but want something that looks okay! I try to get to the flea markets and second hand shops in the area at least once a month. I've tried searching for something online - but haven't found much. I've looked at furniture stores - but most run around 1000.00. I've seen some at Target/Walmart/Shopko - but they don't have doors on them to "cover" the TV. I'm open to suggestions. Kathy
I don't know where you live, but we purchased our tv armoire at a factory sale for $219. It's a nice tv armoire - not the big honkin types, but adequate for all our electronics This was a factory sale - there is a Riverside furniture plant here. There were some awesome bargains - an entire old walmart store full of furniture. They have since built a Riverside outlet here ( Fort Smith, Ark.) where there are wonderful bargains to be found. My computer armoire is a knock-down unit from O'Sullivan. It's not top quality furniture store stuff but it actually looks decent, has held up reasonably well over about 5 years, and cost in the $200 range at Lowe's. Even Sam's has armoires that run in the $600 range and they are VERY nice. I know what you mean about wanting something and no budget for it. Years ago I fell in love with a wicker armoire with iron legs and trim from Pulaski furniture and costs about $2300. Ain't happenin, but my heart still yearns. Nevertheless, I am thrilled with the armoire we had - it is so much better than the old open oak entertainment center we used to have and beyond compare to the days when we just had to stack stuff as best we could on tv stands and the like. The last few pieces of knockdown furniture that we have purchased, we took the extra step after assembly and applied a good quality poly coating to the finish. This sealed it up really nicely, including the edges of the particle board stuff its made of. Made the finish look even better, and its lasting much better too! Linda Stolz
